After a successful “Golmaal” Rohit Shetty’s latest venture is Sunday. With an impressive starcast of Ajay Devgan,Arshad Warsi, Irfan Khan and Ayesha Takia, Sunday looked pretty strong in its promos. I was quite excited about the movie after watching the promos, my only fear was Tushar Kapur, but I thanked god when his name appeared as Special thanks.
Well it’s difficult to give a black and white review of Sunday. You can’t call it an outright winner and not a complete waste of time either. It will definitely fall among the better category of humor of recent times. But still you will have some disappointments.Sunday is a comedy-thriller where the thrill part is a major let down. Sehar (Ayesha Takia) is a dubbing artist (thank god not an Advertising professional or journalist an innovative profession for sure) living in Delhi who is unable to recall the accounts of one Sunday. She remembers going to a night club on Saturday and going for a movie on Monday but one Sunday is missing.
Ayesha Takia desperately wants to find out what happened on that day, well if one is chased by reckless goons who wouldn’t. Strange people acts weirdly around her after that one missing Sunday. Ajay Devgan is a Cop and prospective fiancĂ©e of Sehar. A Taxi driver (Arshad Warsi) and a struggling actor ( Irfan Khan) are looking for Sehar and asking for 420 rupaye. Ajay Devgan tries to solve this mystery one missing Sunday.
The real hero of Sunday are Arshad Warsi and Irfan Khan, the timing is impeccable, the chemistry is outstanding and when they both are together on screen they give you moments which will make you laugh out loud. The jokes are very situational and it’s the sheer mastery of Arshad and Irfan who instigate a touch of brilliance. The first genuine hilarious scene comes in with the entry of Irfan khan and after that both of them never go down. One scene when Irfan Khan is dressed up as Ravana and the scene where Sehar scares the hell out of both of them are moments of great fun or the HR parody.
Most of the other actors look desperate to make you laugh. Ajay Devgan’s new found love for flaunting his cleavage is beyond my understanding and somehow he was not at all fit for the role. All the time it looks like he is fighting hard to be funny but not quite there. Ayesha Takia was not given the responsibility to make you laugh. Her job was to look pretty all the time and scared sometimes. It was nice to see that she lost some weight after her Miss Thunder Thighs and Hooters appearance in No Smoking, still there is a long way to go. Vrijesh Hirjee’s accent might make you smile for the first time after that he just drags. Many side characters are put in for no good reason.
Sunday is confused, there are few scenes which just appear out of no where and they don’t make any sense. Arshad Warsi’s emotional revelation of his kidney problem is one of the most stupid thing Rohit Shetty could have done. But good thing is everytime after all the mayhem and stupidity Arshad and Irfan come on screen to clean up the mess. In the second half Sunday changes tracks to be a thriller still there are good doses of laughs. But the thriller part is the most ridiculous suspense you could have ever imagined. When the whole mystery breaks you feel like why it all started in the firs place. Casting that cute little bump as the villain clearly shows budget constraints or may be Rohit Shetty was smoking “Classic Milds”. A major let down on the movie is its screenplay. Sunday is full of worthless song placed in the worst possible situations. To add to the agony the music is nothing but great. Rohit Shetty fumbles in all the romanticize sequences and the chemistry between the lead stars never builds up.
In the end I will say if you have some extra cash and some extra cash give Sunday a try for the sake of Irfan Khan and Arshad Warsi’s outstanding performances. Otherwise even if you miss this unlike Sehar you are not missing anything.
I am gonna give Sunday 2.5/5

LOVE
What love is, we all know. But is it something we all express? If not, I think it's probably because you don't know what it is. Befuddled, or just think I'm crazy? Then open up a dictionary and look up love. You'll find a bunch of definitions like:
Main Entry: 1love
Pronunciation: 'l&v
Function: nounEtymology: Middle English, from Old English lufu; akin to Old High German luba love, Old
English lEof dear, Latin lubEre, libEre to please
1 a (1) : strong affection for another arising out of kinship or personal ties
2 : warm attachment, enthusiasm, or devotion
3 a : the object of attachment, devotion, or admiration
4 : a score of zero
and lots of similar ones. But do any of these 'definitions' (esp the 4th one!:D) do justice to that wonderful feeling? Obviously, NO! For it is the one feeling which keeps you up all night smiling, which makes you spend the whole day dreaming, and it's THE ONLY feeling which makes you feel you've finally got what you've wanted all your life.
Just think- why do we talk about love so much? Simple. Because it's undoubtedly ubiquitous. Look around you, look inside you- you'll find love- for there's someone or at least something that everyone loves. There's love in mom's food, there's love in a friend's teasing, there's love in a lover's gift, there's love in a sibling's hug, you see love when you see the couple who're holding hands, etc (and of course there's love in ALL Bollywood movies!:D). All said and done, love is still a word which's usage is severely restricted. Don't agree? Read on and maybe you'll get my point.
It's very disheartening to see the usage of this wondeful word, used in a very narrow sense nowadays. SO narrow, that you'll probably have to think a hundred times before saying "I love spending time with you" even to a close friend. Hmmm, Imagine this. Your friend right from your childhood days is leaving abroad(And just to make you ppl imagine properly, he/she is of the opposite sex, u lucky @$$- thanks to Me and my BROAD-mind!:D). You don't know if you're going to meet him/her again in the near future. You're seeing him/her off at the airport. Would you be comfortable saying "I Love you a lot, take care", or would you rather say "Take care, I'll miss you a lot"? At least 90% of the people I know would use the latter, rather than the former. And why is that- is this just another friend you like? No, this is a friend who's been with you a long time, and hence, you more than 'JUST LIKE' her (I've had enough of using 'him/her'). But would you say you love him or love her? I guess that again about 90% of you would say NO.
Well, that's how restricted the usage of the word's become. Don't you realise that it's the 'love-for-you' that makes your Mom ever-concerned? It's this same love that you give your Mom, Dad, Sister, Brother, Brother-In-Law, Niece, Nephew, cousin, uncle, aunty, spouse, etc(:D), and it's what you get in return too. Love always follows give and take- "you get what you give". So why is it any different when it comes to your friends? Couldn't it be that you love them too like your brothers and sisters? Or couldn't it be that you just love them, but not in the way a narrow-minded society sees love? I believe that the answer is yes. You could love anyone like your family, though they may not one of your them(YET!;)). If you agree with me on this, I'd say that you love your friend who flew abroad- a paragragraph back! :)
So what is it that makes things so restricted? Its simply the society we're in- the chain we're all links of. A link can't move the way it wants. It's movement is restricted by the links next to it, which in turn has it's movements restricted by the ones next to it and so on. But that doesn't mean that if most of the links twist one way, the rest of them don't. Twist it properly and the whole chain twists. Hope you get the allegory. (I'm sure most of you know this, but I still want to mention that the reason why Philadelphia is named so is because it literally means 'City of Brotherly Love'. At least they're concerned about brotherly/sisterly love, though we don't seem to be!).
So what am I getting at? Well, do you remember the times when your Dad used to hold your hand when crossing the road? Do you remember the times when the first thing you did after coming from school was give your Mom a big hug and a kiss? Now THAT is pure, unadulterated love. Do you still do that now? Do you hold your Dad's hand when you're crossing the road now? Do you remember your Mom when you notice her favourite show on T.V and call her up and talk? NO?! So where IS all that love now? You can never kill love- which means it's just inside you, all bound up and gagged. You don't let it out, you just keep it inside. And why would that be? Is it the discomfiture it causes? That people would think you're some sort of geek who doesn't know how to cross the road, or that some babe would notice you helping your Dad cross the road and would think it's not macho on your part?! If yes, screw the 'babe'.
Express your love, in words or by actions. The more you don't, the harder it gets. Appreciate someone's love if you're lucky enough to bask in it. For not everyone is lucky to be loved, or realise that they're loved. If someone lets you know that you make him/her feel special, it makes YOU feel special. If you tell someone that you really care, that person will give you all the care in the world too. If you tell someone that you love him/her right from inside, then that someone will definitely love you too. Said it before, saying it again- Show your love if you love someone, it really doesn't make sense otherwise.
Life is really short. Not just for me and you, but for everyone. A person whom you may want to hug today might be gone tomorrow. A person whom you may want to call now, might be gone in an hour. Never to be back again. And it might only be then that you realize that you'd give anything in this world to get that one chance back again. Sorry, but you can't. Cos that's how it is- 'Time, tide and wait for none'. Neither do the damn Mumbai local trains.

all our lives…
“all our lives….
we search for someone to love…
someone who makes us complete….
we choose partners… and change partners…
we dance to a song of heartbreak and hope….
all the while wondering…
if somewhere, somehow, there’s someone perfect….
who might be searching for us…”

Relationships - a case study
Relationships, a very very complex thing that a human lives with. Still they so very much needed that life seems nothing without them.
I am gonna talk about a true story. Have seen this happen quite often around me. This one invloves 3 objects. Sometimes extends to even 4. But for now just take the case of 3.
So the scenario is like this - the 3 components are:
1. a guy
2. the guy's other half (i am talking in future in which this doesnt seem to be a thing thats going to happen but lets say "the other half" (TOH) for now)
3. the TOH's parents (this ccould be the guy's parents or sometimes - both)
Relationships between a guy and a gal is sometimes so hard to carry on, sometimes very easy. Effort from both sides are very much needed to keep it alive...keep it enjoyable. So this guy meets this TOH sometime during his college days... they get along fine.. no problems.. they love being with each other so much .. and u know ...at this stage they can't even imagine life without one of them not being in the other's. So much of mutual dependencies...so much of liking.. so much in common.. they think they are made for each other..BUT... I told ya - there are complexities...!!!
Here pass those golden college days and distance separates them... but they promise to keep their promises. Time passes and now its time to disclose their relationship to their parents so that their joint venture could go ahead in future bonded by "marriage".
Upon the disclosure:
Parents : "We would enquire about the guy, his family, status and his job profile."TOH explains them the whole scenario. And now the TOH's parents had issues with it.......
Issues - 1st : inter-caste. 2nd : financial status of the guy's family and his job profile. Well... I guess they could compromise with the 1st issue but the 2nd (tho' they dint show this). Parents were adamant and she prepared herself for the compromise. I guess not because she was weak and couldn't standup with her priorities but because she dint want to! And the Guy????? He had to live with it.
Hearts broken .. nights kept eyes wet. dreams were lost.. and they knew they couldnt make it right.
Questions arise - Why did this happen? Did they really want each other? Why couldnt their parents understand them? Why couldnt they agree? Who is truely to be blamed...the guy/gal/parents??? Why dint she stand up for her cause? Did she even try? What about the intensity of their relationship? What about the guy? Many more do arise ! These are tough questions .. u know .. and the answers are even tougher to find! You have to be one of them or u have to be a mind-reader.

What's happening to our Prospective Prime Ministers???
One politician who could surely be called Prime Minister material and whom India has lost is Pramod Mahajan.
Pramod Mahajan is one of the few politicians I look upon to. Be it his charisma or his tech savviness, Pramod Mahajan has always been a leader of today's youth. He was to BJP a ray of hope. An excellent fund raiser. A dynamic organizer. To India he could have been a good Prime Minister. And to Atal Bihari Vajpayee, he was 'Lakshman'. His loss surely leaves a void which cannot be filled very easily. He did to BJP what Rajiv Gandhi did to Congress. But, both of them failed to live to see their dreams get executed.
Now, this brings us to an issue which deserves a lot of consideration. India has off-late lost a number of politicians who could be considered prospective Prime Ministers. And this phenomenon is not confined to either the BJP or the Congress alone. Both of them have been on the losing end.
Let me begin with Rajiv Gandhi. I would have surely voted for him, had I been able to when he was alive. The dynamism and charisma which he carried can be found in very few other leaders. Consider an India with him as the Prime Minister, for say one tenure at least. May be, this is why he was assassinated.
Next, I would like to focus upon two leaders who were contemporaries of Rajiv Gandhi. Rajesh Pilot and Madhavrao Scindia.
Both Rajesh Pilot and Madhavrao Scindia were very high profile and had a decent probability of being Prime Ministers. Had even one of them been alive, the country would'nt have had to face the threat of having an Italian as a Prime Minister. But both of them died in bizarre accidents. Bizarre because, no one could conclusively say what happened or why it so happened.
Now, can you strike the commonality in these tragic deaths. If I was reading Sidney Sheldons with twisty CIA plots aimed at killing leaders of Communist countries I would have jumped to this conclusion. Some foreign entity may want to deprive India of good leaders. Well, its for you to decide.
Are we cursed or is the curse being inflicted upon us......
